2nd Dan - Black Belt

 

Progressive Grading

2nd Dan will be taken over at least a 2 year period from passing 1st Dan Black Belt.  There will be no formal grading examination and 1st Dan’s will need to perform, instruct and represent the club and its instructors in order to meet the pre-requisites for a 2nd Dan promotion.  1st Dan’s will also need to demonstrate

that they have learnt and can perform the following kata.

All 5 Heian Kata

Bassai Dai

Enpi

Niju Shi Ho

Hangetsu

Tekki Nidan

Kanku Dai

Tekki Sandan

Jiin

Sochin

Wankan

Bassai Sho

Kanku Sho

 

Other Pre-requisites

1st Dan Black Belts must attend 6 courses per year for 2 consecutive years, represent the Cannon Shotokan Karate Federation at other karate clubs in the local

area and be able to demonstrate Kata application on demand for any of the above kata.  1st Dan Black Belts must also assume teaching roles within the

club and be seen to be passing on their skills and knowledge to other students. 

 

Senior Cannon Shotokan Karate Federation instructors will decide who is worthy of promotion and promotion must be earned over the above mentioned 2

year period.  2nd Dan grades are awarded for effort and commitment to the sport of Shotokan Karate and for supporting and giving back to the club.
