The Cannon Shotokan Karate Federation will no longer be visiting or have anything to do with the Edgmond Village Shotokan Karate club in Newport
Because it’s committee appear to know more about Shotokan Karate than it’s instructors and they’re not happy with Sensei Paul Connor’s strict teaching
methods. We don’t think that the committee ever attend however as their students seem to always make a point to thank Sensei Paul Connor and
Sensei David Byrne for the lesson. Something we didn’t think happened when you’re dissatisfied with a training lesson.

Long live Traditional Shotokan, if weak and feeble people opt out then we know we’re doing something right!

We’re proud to be a small Traditional Shotokan Karate club and our instructors are true to the Traditional way of teaching.

The past few months have seen a number of old Cannon Shotokan Karate Federation members return to training and the club now has almost as
many Black Belts as it does Kyu Grade members. We can only hope that more will return as the atmosphere and sense of respect in the club has
never been better.

We have also seen a good influx of new students to our 6:00 to 6:50 beginners classes, ranging from 4 to 14 years old and hopefully some
of these new students will go on to earn the right to train in the main class.

All students new and old are reminded that this is not strictly a sport or casual hobby, Shotokan is a discipline steeped in tradition and requires a great
deal of dedication in order to progress through to Black Belt level.

We would also like to thank Sensei Jack Whitehouse for his efforts in training new members, without which we would have struggled to cater for
younger than normal beginners.

Keep up the good work! Previous News Older News
